Recessions? Who needs ‘em?

Happy 2009, internet. I hope you had a nice holiday; I know I did. Though it wasn’t long enough. Surprise, surprise. Tomorrow morning I have to head back to work and I couldn’t be dreading it more.

So, for Christmas Andy and I went to my parents’ in DFW (Dallas / Fort Worth, if you’re not from these parts) for about a week. Got some nice things. Books, gift cards to get more books which we already used, some clothes, DVDs, Spore (dying to play more–and why I haven’t yet you’ll find out in a bit), etc, etc.

Anyway, came home a bit before the new year to a note on our apartment door reading: “Want more space? Ask about our amazing deal on a 3-bedroom apartment!” Or something along those lines.  Andy and I are instantly interested in checking it out. So the next day, we go by the office, get a key and take a look. The closet space alone is amazing. And I’m in love with the idea of having a third bedroom (now Andy and I can each have our own piddle rooms). The (good deal on) rent isn’t much more than we’re paying now. So we mulled it over for a day or so, then decided to go for it.

And now we’re moving. And we have to get it done in a week. When we asked the apartment people how long we could have the guy was like, “oh I don’t know a few days, this weekend?” Now really, who the fuck can move that quickly? I said, how about more like a week? And they agreed to that.

We have way too much shit to move in less than a week. As it is it will be pushing it. One thing we have a problem with is our exponentially growing movie and book collection and a lack of shelves to put them on. Well, now we have more walls and room for shelves. So Friday night, Andy and I took a spontaneous trip to IKEA in Houston.

Now, I have never been to IKEA. I have the Sims 2 IKEA stuff pack, and I’d browsed their website. But we don’t have one in our city (Bryan / College Station), so I’d never been.

Let me tell you, THAT was an experience. I don’t know what the hell I expected, but I did not expect a gigantic two floor building packed with more cars in the lot than a bloody Walmart.

It shocked me a bit just how large this place was. AND I could not get over my amusement at seeing Sims 2 furniture in real life. All the items from the stuff pack were there. Of course I knew the IKEA stuff pack was based on IKEA furniture, but just seeing it made my night. Ha.

Anyway, we got lots of shelves. I like their bookshelves because they’re very tall. And damn lucky they fit in my little car. Reasons like this are why I’m glad it’s a hatch-back with fold-down back seats. No way it would have fit otherwise. As it was, we had to slide them through between the front seats, so we were driving back to College Station ghetto style. And yes, I know you can get these things online, but one–I wanted them now, and two–I wanted to actually see them first. We might pick up more later.

But all our DVDs and books are over at the new place. Along with my clothes, which I sorted through before bringing them over. My throw-away and give-away piles are AMAZING. I go through way too many clothes, it’s absurd. Really, I don’t know what is wrong with me thinking I need about 30 pairs of jeans.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. It’s going to be a lot tougher with stupid jobs getting in the way. If only I could get paid to do nothing. Boy, that would be sweet…

So, Jaclyn went to IKEA, huh? Your right damn right about how many cars parked there, I’ve taken several trips to IKEA and compared to Walmart, its always a bloody mess trying to find a parking space, for me that is.

I’m glad that you and Andy will get to have your own ‘piddle spaces’. :D

IKEA is always a fun trip. It’s such a maze. I feel like a kid in a toy store whenever I go there. I can’t imagine what it’d be like to move, since I’ve been in the same house so far, I can only imagine how much of a pain in the arse it would be.

And 30 jeans? 30!!?? Wow. I only have 3 and 2 of them don’t even fit me right 0__o

Haha, my mom used to be OBSESSED with IKEA. She would drag us out pretty much every Sunday to go shopping there. And it’s not like it’s right next door, no IKEA is about 35 minutes away so it pretty much took up our whole day lol.

But yea, good ole IKEA. So much stuff there that you think you’ll use, but then you never do XD

Congrats on the apartment though! hopefully that’ll make up for the fact that you have to pack, then unpack :-/
