Taking off…
I started taking pictures for Chapter 7 tonight. No, I’m not done writing. But I didn’t feel like writing tonight, I felt like starting pictures. So here we are.
Remember that post from July where I griped about how difficult pictures were going to be for this chapter? Well, mostly difficult because I am the suck at drawing things like blankets. I think the one here kind of looks like a swirly slug shake. Oh well.
On the upside, those magic display tray objects or whatever they’re called that let you pose sims on objects are fantastic! Definitely making things easier on that front.
I got ten slides done tonight; let’s see if this keeps up. The entire time I was taking pictures, I was listening to the new Radiohead album. Obsessed much? Oh yes. It’s good to be obsessed with something new because I was entirely bored of my music before this came out. And I love the “pay what you want for it” thing Radiohead is trying out with this album. Only they would do something like this. So if they’re only going to release it online (not counting crazy ass box set), then I’m glad it’s like this. I don’t particularly care for paying a great deal for digitally downloaded music. If I pay for it, I typically want something tangible (a CD). 99 cents for one song on iTunes is positively ridiculous to me, and would be a last resort for me to obtain a song.
So yeah. I highly recommend buying the album. My favorites at the moment are 15 Step, Reckoner and Jigsaw Falling into Place.
That picture of Jill & Mat is so adorable! I just love the look on Jill’s face! That’s awesome that you took some more pictures! I’m really looking forward to this next chapter!^_^

Thanks, guys! You’re very reassuring!
Alvis, check out the links in the comments of this post: http://jaclynt.com/news/2007/07/27/sim-picture-challenge-of-the-century/
That’s where I got them all.
so um, Jaclyn, I just need to say, your layout is amazing once again.
Your taste in music is kinda tame. Radiohead is okay.
The blanket could have more definition of a shape, other than that, it looks awesome. Great job. Cant wait to read IWULA
What did you use to make this layout? I really want to create a layout - for something, anything - im thinking of using photoshop and slices, but yeah, thats only one part of it no?
Music taste kinda tame? Radiohead just okay? Well, if you mean it’s not stupid teeny-bopper trendy crap (like MCR and clones), then I’ll take that as a compliment. I love my music taste, thank you very much. I’m also one of those smarmy people who thinks her taste in music is superior. It totally is. >:|
LOL.
Really, thanks though, I’m glad you like the layout and that you’re still looking forward to reading IWULA…whenever it may come out…hopefully this century!
But yeah, the blanket is definitely booger shaped–I’ve actually already re-made it. Don’t know that it’s a whole lot better, but eh. I have later scenes with more blankets, so I suppose I’ll be getting more practice along the way!
Err, I don’t use anything to make the layout per say… Think up the basic form in a Photoshop image, save images how I think they’ll piece together best and style the HTML with CSS–which is the heart of it, really. Knowing what HTML elements to use for what textual content and knowing what CSS to use to style those elements and keep the elements as semantically meaningful as possible is the goal. I’m poo-poo at explaining; that probably made no sense! But to start I definitely place things in Photoshop. Good luck and thanks for the comments—yours are always fun! >:D
hahahah, I was being alittle sarcastic there. I like radiohead. And I don’t like MCR as much anymore. BUT, i do think that the particular Radiohead song you linked to was actually kinda tame, I like the white stripes, and tool, and deftones, and metallica, and ACDC, and nirvana, and guns n roses, and pink floyd, and black sabbath, and the cure, and the doors, Jimi Hendrix, and the really hardcore metal stuff, haha…which, in comparison, Radiohead would be tame no?
The picture is still radtastic though, even if you did change it, the original was awesome.
And I was just asking because the new graphics teacher at my school says he actually USES photoshop to make layouts…using things like the slice tool and photoshops’ scripting abilities. I was just curious as to if you also used Photoshop and the slice tool, because it might be nice, but I dont think someone can really design a complete layout on it without some of their own sripting (like on dreamweaver) I really wish i had some excuse to try to make a website. I dont learn it until next year, last semester. First year is all photoshop basics…
pshhhh!
haha Jaclyn, I love you! im sorry if my comment about your music taste came out as mean, yours totally rocks!! (in comparison to some other shit that I hear…)
LOL, now see, I listen to several of those bands–and you have The Cure on there, who is more towards Radiohead’s end of the spectrum than Metallica. Tame isn’t a word I would use to classify Radiohead, weird–most definitely, and not traditional to any genre for sure, but I associate tame with boring, and they are definitely not that.
But truth be told I don’t have near as much of taste for heavy stuff as I used to–well, perhaps I’m just more picky.
Anyway, the only thing I’ve ever used slices in Photoshop for is saving button images for my forum. LMAO. And the slices were made by someone else. It was cool. But that’s about the extent of my knowledge on what slices are used for. I’m sure you could cut slices from your Photoshop doc holding a web layout—about it making the HTML for you, I seem to remember it having that capability perhaps, but I’m sure the code is total poop in regards to web standards, though on the other hand perhaps good for beginners, though I could see y’all using Dreamweaver or Adobe Go Live over just Photoshop for websites. Beats me, really. XD
